Claim the incredible healing power in your body and your backyard

Nurturing Natural Health is an empowering yoga workshop, a grounding retreat, and a rejuvenating herbalism class. It offers students a space to step into the healing realm of yoga and herbalism to create greater wellness, vitality, and calm in their life. It is set on the beautiful backdrop of ifarm’s 19 acres and led by Courtney Bell, ERYT 200 of Chakra Power Yoga and Nick Shrewsbury, herbalist and ifarm’s education manager. Participants will handcraft an herbal tea to take home and organic lunches will be provided amazing organic caterer Laney and Lu.

The yoga classes will focus on asana (postures) that calm the nervous system, while also developing a practice that can heal you from inside out and help to process stress.

Courtney will put particular emphasis on pranayama (breathing) techniques that can settle the nervous system and bring more oxygen to the blood, leading to more balanced energy and a heightened immune response.

In addition to the yoga classes, the retreat will feature a class in the foundations of herbalism. Nick will teach the class about seven herbs that can strengthen the immune system, nourish the body, and support the nervous system to better cope with challenges and stress. The class will also take a guided native medicinal plants walk in ifarm’s gardens to learn about the herbal remedies they can harvest in their own backyard.

Following the herbal walk, the class will have the chance to mix their own medicinal tea blend, using delicious herbs like ginger, vanilla, peppermint, and lavender together with other powerfully medicinal (and certified organic) herbs grown right at ifarm.

The day will also include space to take breaks and enjoy the beauty of the farm.

Curriculum Includes:

  • 15 asana that can create positive shifts in your physiology in minutes.
  • Two pranayama breathing exercises that generate immediate feelings of calm or increased energy.
  • Ten medicinal herbs that participants will learn to incorporate into their lives to nurture their health.
  • The opportunity to mix a personalized organic tea blend that supports your body and your taste buds.

Yoga Instructor: Courtney Bell

In order to experience an inner fire, constant study and devotion to spiritual connection are required.

-Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras

Courtney (E-RYT 200) comes to her mat for the practice, not the pose. She believes that the physical practice of yoga has one goal – to shred the outside world and get back to the purity within. She balances her work life by exploring the outdoors: backpacking, camping, hiking, ice and rock climbing, kayaking, and yoga are a few of the ways she connects with her source! Courtney strives to create an environment where students can let go of labels and projections of what life “should” be so they can define what really matters to them.

Herbalism Instructor: Nick Shrewsbury

Nick is a home herbalist, a yoga teacher, and a life coach who has traveled the world to study psychology, physiology, and connection. His herbal experience comes from a two-year apprenticeship in medicinal herbalism and Ayurveda with herbal instructor Siri Temple, as well as a two-year healing journey with Lyme disease. Nick is a certified RYT-200 and Yoga Tune Up® teacher- his passion is sharing the incredible healing power of the natural world and the human body.
