Kelly Corbett, founder of Romney Ridge Yarns and Wool
, will be teaching this workshop on natural dyeing, using plants harvested from our certified organic permaculture garden.
Kelly will guide participants to use non-toxic dyeing methods to extract colors from dye plants that can be found in the wild or in a garden. She will cover many different common and accessible dye plants, while the group extracts shades of yellow and green from Calendula, Tansy, Marigold and Goldenrod flowers. Each person will then dye four 50-yard skeins of natural wool, using the dye “teas” created in large pots.
Each participant will go home with their four dyed 50-yard skeins.
Bring an apron and wear clothes you are ok with getting little stained. Kitchen gloves are also a good idea, though nothing we use is harsh or toxic.
