An event every week that begins at 3:30pm on Monday, repeating until Monday, June 10, 2019
Our Spring Afterschool Series is a new collaboration between ifarm LLC and The Acorn Forest School. This 6-week series is designed to introduce children (ages 5 to 8) to the outdoor wonders of spring.
It will be led by skilled environmental educator Alex Crawford, who has been a preschool teacher for 10 years and facilitating children’s environmental education for 5 years.
The nature-based program will allow your child to explore the world around him/her through stories, group play, songs, hands-on learning, and nature exploration. The classroom will be the forests and fields of ifarm, along with our historic carriage house for inclement weather.
The program begins on Monday, May 6th and takes place each following Monday for six weeks (ending June 10th). Each day will run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Alex will have the support of an ifarm staff member to ensure the student to teacher ratio is never more than 6 to 1. We are keeping the class small, at 12 students, so each child has plenty of attention.
Alex has many excellent educational topics for each class day, which include Forest Magic, Animal Habitats, and Natural Engineering. To learn more you can visit her curriculum page here. There will also be opportunities to greet the farm animals and explore an expansive flower and herb garden. We can guarantee your child will return to you dirty, full of stories, and with a smile!
Week 1: Using Our Five Senses
ifarm has many exciting spaces to explore and we will take it all in as we visit the animals, explore the gardens and look for fun creatures in the woods! Learn about how each of your five senses teaches you something different about the world around you.
Week 2: MUD!
Mud can tell us a lot about the land we spend time on. We will be exploring dirt and soil, learning about what makes mud so special, and getting creative with some mud play. Dress to get dirty!
Week 3: Forest Magic
Have you ever seen signs of magic in the forest? Many people believe that the quiet parts of the woods are home to gnomes and fairies. We will hear some stories about the lore of these magical forest creatures and look for signs of secret lives.
Week 4: Wild Wetlands
We will be getting some use out of our magnifying glasses and microscopes for this program! By exploring the area around the pond we will be on the lookout for some cool creatures that enjoy the waters edge.
Week 5: Engineering
The group will work together to problem solve, build and get creative, from building a shelter, to harnessing the power of water. Bring a towel and plan on getting wet.
Week 6: Final Week
The final week is reserved for a more in-depth look at the groups favorite activities from the series. More information to come about this fun wrap up to our spring nature series!
Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather, with rain gear, boots, and a water bottle.
We will run this program in almost any weather, unless there is a torrential storm. If we have to cancel due to serious weather, we will send out an email to all registrants at least 12 hours before the event. We will not offer refunds for days cancelled due to weather.
