This is a workshop for chefs, foodies, and gardeners that want to grow organic mushroom delicacies and encourage beneficial mushroom mycelium in the garden.
The workshop will be led by Willie Crosby, co-founder of Fungi Ally, a renowned mushroom farm in western Massachusetts. Participants will go home with an inoculated log and straw bag that will provide 3-5 pounds of organic shiitake and oyster mushrooms over their lifetime.
Willie will be leading three different experiences in this workshop. Participants will learn to inoculate logs with shiitake mushrooms and straw bags with oyster mushrooms. This is a skill that is best learned in a hands-on experience: Willie will demonstrate common mistakes that can make the difference between a delicious feast and a failed inoculation. Both of these mushrooms are delicacies as well as nutritional powerhouses.
Last (but not least) Willie will demonstrate how to inoculate live plant roots with beneficial mycorrhizal fungi that help to increase nitrogen stores, repel insects, and boost disease resistance. This is an invaluable skill for any gardener.
Following the workshop, participants will have the knowledge to produce their own supply of mushrooms and inoculate their garden with mycorrhizal fungi at little cost.
